Tinker Tour was welcomed to Boise April 24-25 by the Idaho Human Rights Education Center and the American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho.
The ACLU of Idaho hosted a wonderful reception at which we got to meet ACLU members and staff, as well as law students and community members…
At the Idaho Human Rights Education Center (which has recently been renamed the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights),we spoke to a group of teachers at a workshop on teaching human rights topics…
…and got to see local students receive recognition for their amazing civil rights projects…
In addition to the students’ impressive artwork, we got to check out the IHREC’s two beautiful Anne Frank exhibits – one indoor and one outdoor. The IHREC told us theirs is the “only Anne Frank memorial in the United States and one of the only places in the world where the full Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is on display.”
At the indoor exhibit, you can read the story of the White Rose, a group of German students who spoke out against Hitler and the Nazis. What an amazing example of students speaking up with a fresh and important perspective.
The IHREC also hosted a lovely reception for us on Saturday night. It was a pleasure to meet those who support the Center, which is truly one of our country’s treasures…
Many thanks to IHREC Executive Director Dr. Dan Prinzing, pictured at a workshop below, who was instrumental in orchestrating the tour’s Boise stop!
Thanks also to Idaho Public Television’s Marcia Franklin, who interviewed Mary Beth for the station’s show, Dialogue. We can’t wait to see the piece she and IPT produced!
