Tinker Turns 50

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Tinker ruling and youth First Amendment rights!

RSVP for the live stream event on Friday, February 22nd, 12:00-1:30 pm central time, hosted by the State Historical Society of Iowa, and broadcast to classrooms nationwide by Iowa Public Television.

We are so honored that Marjory Stoneman Douglas journalism students and advisers will be joining us as we feature student journalists from Iowa and nationwide.  Here’s your chance to speak up and stand up, because they want to hear student voices (like yours!) at The Schoolhouse Gate.

And check out other events from February 18 -28, as Mary Beth and John Tinker meet with students in Des Moines public schools and Iowa colleges and universities, and participate in many other community events. If you’re in Iowa, please check out the complete schedule and join us at the public events.

Festivities are made possible by Des Moines Public Schools, C-SPAN, Iowa Public TV,  State Historical Society of Iowa, Iowa Civil Liberties Union, American Civil Liberties Union, Student Press Law Center, and others.

And, you can encourage even more youth voices by DONATING here.

And, thanks, RAYGUN, for creating some great T-shirts to help celebrate!  10% of proceeds go toward making the anniversary a success, so order your shirt today, and don’t let anyone Tinker with YOUR rights!
