The Supreme Court Historical Society welcomed the Tinker Tour as part of its Leon Silverman Lecture Series with quite a crowd to hear Kelly Shackelford, of the Liberty Institute, speak eloquently about the Tinker plaintiffs. Justice Alito introduced Mr. Shackelford. Later, Mary Beth spoke with Justice Alito about his Senate confirmation hearing, where he affirmed support for the Tinker ruling.

It was a night of celebrating John and Mary Beth Tinker’s victory for First Amendment rights, and also of celebrating First Amendment advocate Mike Hiestand’s 50th birthday! Happy Birthday, Mike!
Mike said it was a “magical night, ” which it was. We celebrated the First Amendment, but we were also thrilled to celebrate a great event in our nation’s history by wishing Mike a happy, happy birthday!
